When we adopted Elizabeth from China, she was nearly 2 years old and already speaking her native language (not Mandarin or Cantonese).
We started very slowly teaching her English and were extremely patient with her. She caught on quickly as children do, BUT her speech needed extra help. Asian culture doesn’t have some of our English phonetic sounds like “L.” I was worried she would struggle with learning to read along with her peers so I was always on the hunt for printable ABC sheets that would help her learn her alphabet in a fun way. I also wanted something small that we could take to restaurants, in the car or even a trip to Target (plus it helped keep her distracted so I could concentrate on not buying stuff we don’t need – again with watching our budget).
Because these helped her so much, I decided to create one for my readers with 3-6 year olds! Simply print these off, and cut them into squares. If you want, you can laminate them so they’ll last longer. It’s so much fun going over the alphabet with Elizabeth while also talking about the animals in the pics! She really loves these.
